Citation: Michinov, Nicolas, et al. “Procrastination, Participation, and Performance in Online Learning Environments.” Computers and Education, vol. 56, no. 1, Elsevier Ltd, 2011, pp. 243–52, doi:10.1016/j.compedu.2010.07.025.

Summary: The author makes an argument about how procrastination can affect a student's online education experience. They make the case that procrastination can cause a student to fall back on their education, in an online environment, to a higher degree than it would in a traditional setting. It also makes the point that online education success is strongly related to a student's ability to manage their time.

Author Background: Michinov is a researcher in social psychology which means he would very knowledgeable on what drives certain individuals to do certain actions. His credibility is strengthening the research he does in this article because most of the article investigates the psychological aspects of online learners (procrastination's effect on dropout rates and ability to pass the class)

Key Term: "active participation and interaction" - this key term/phrase is important because it describes the reason why students who procrastinate more have a higher tendency to be unsuccessful in an online environment.

Three quotes:
1. "It appears that online learning success may be related to individual differences in time management and can be explained, at least in part, by the level of learner participation in discussion forums."
2. "A high level of interaction and participation is clearly desirable in online learning courses as highly participatory students have been shown to achieve better results"
3. "In other words, it appears that if high procrastinators are less successful than low procrastinators, it is partly because they participate less (and later) in discussion forums during the learning process"

Value: This article helps back up my other articles that state that students have low motivation when it comes to online learning. Their desire to learn is impeded by the comfortable environment they get used to every day, which causes them to procrastinate more and be less successful in learning.

Most students believe that online learning is just as efficient as traditional classroom learning when it comes to communication between them and their educators. Most educators also believe that online learning is just as good as traditional classroom learning. However, when it comes to whether students believe that they actually learn better in an online setting than a classroom setting, the number of students is low (26%).   Abstract Online learning is arguably one of the best assets to come to education from the effects of COVID-19. The potential of online education goes hand-in-hand with the potential of technology and what it has to offer to students. Although colleges are using online education to improve their facets for teaching, they are still lacking in many aspects of a college education. Colleges are not able to replicate the in-person aspect of college education in an online setting; therefore, many students are left feeling less motivated about continuing college education. There is a decline in student retention rates, but colleges still choose to focus on expanding their pedagogy. One of the ways colleges can expand their improving student collaboration with other students and teachers. Research Question and 3 Sources

As the Corona Virus had begun to unfold across the world and had eventually reached America, colleges were forced to make a decision about keeping their colleges open or transitioning to online college. Keeping the campuses open could put both students and staff at risk of getting the virus. Transitioning to an online atmosphere could hinder the college staff’s ability to effectively communicate ideas to students while also hindering students’ ability to learn.
